Nickel Silver Alloy: Properties & Applications

Nickel silver is a metal that is defined as,

“A silvery, hard, corrosion-resistant, ductile, malleable alloy of copper, zinc, and nickel, used in tableware and as a structural material for hospital and restaurant equipment. Also called German silver.”

It is a hard malleable alloy made up of copper, zinc and nickel. It contains no silver, rather it is pseudo silver and is therefore called nickel silver. It is used for a number of purposes to give various products a silver shining look. Its precise composition is 52-80 percent of copper, 10-35 percent of zinc and 5-35 percent of nickel and small percentages of lead and tin.

Nickel silver has plethora of properties that make it quite a demanded polishing metal. It's tough, corrosion resistant, and electricity resistant and is often used in producing a number of products across industries. Some major industries that use nickel silver are music instruments industry, brazing application, silver polishing and cutlery products.
