National Horticulture Board Schemes: Objectives

National Horticulture Board in India, was set up in the year 1984. The main idea behind developing an autonomous society like this was to promote the overall growth of horticulture sector comprising fruits, vegetables, spices etc. The schemes of NHB are solely aimed at the betterment of the farming sector of India. All the development schemes under NHB have few common goals and aims some of which are mentioned as under. Take a look:

-Providing hi-tech and upto date commercial horticulture within identified belts.

-Making modern post-harvest management infrastructure, a common facility and indispensable part of a bunch of projects.

-For fresh horticulture produce, developing an integrated and energy efficient cold chain infrastructure.

-Promoting latest tools, technologies and techniques for commercialization or adoption after making proper technology need assessment.

-Providing proper assistance for procuring high quality planting material. Also, promoting the establishment of mother plant nurseries, scion and root stock banks or importing of planting material etc.

-Popularization and development of fair market for fresh horticulture produce and agriculture products.

-Promoting the practice of field trials of different farm inputs, imported planting materials and other protocols and R&D programs for further commercialization of tested technologies.

-Mentioning critical storage conditions for perishable horticulture produce along with prescribing technical standards for cold chain infrastructure.

-Updating and rendering the technologically advance techniques to basic level workers in horticulture industry like gardeners, cold storage operators, farm level skilled workers as well as master trainers.

-Popularizing the consumption of various horticulture products and farm produce.

-Establishment of common facility centers in various agri-export zones and horticulture parks.

-Developing, procuring and distributing horticulture database via genuine mediums so as to, strengthen the market intelligence system.

-Constantly researching and surveying for weeding out the constraints and other hindrances in the horticulture sector. This would also help in developing strategies for systematic growth of this particular sector and providing worthy services in terms of advisory and consultancy.
