The World of Natural Food Colors

Food would not be even half as interesting as it is, had there been no alluring food colors. Green, yellow, red, pink, purple, orange, blue and so many more. The world of natural food colors is bright. All these food dyes and colors are either of the two types. One, the natural food colors or the natural food dyes. And second, the artificial or synthetic food colors.

The natural food colors are obviously safer than the artificial food colors. Natural food colors are extracted from edible food products. They might be bought from the market or alternately they can also be made in the household kitchens. Let's look at some of the natural food colors that can be easily found among the routine cooking items.

Turmeric – Turmeric is the easiest of all the natural food colors. Specially in Asian preparations, meals are incomplete without at least one preparation that uses turmeric. Also it's laden with medicinal properties and is very beneficial for the bones
Beet RootBeet root extract is also a very healthy, natural food color. Its color is some what purplish and deep red. It is used for ice creams, cakes, pudding and other frozen desserts.
Hibiscus – Hibiscus flower is available in a variety of colors and can be used to derive the desired color. Orange, red, pink and yellow are some of the main colors that the hibiscus flower is found in. Its petals need to be washed, dried and then milled to get the natural food color powder and can then also be converted into paste form.
Green Tea Powder – Green tea powder is often used to lend green color to a lot of eatables. It is an extremely easy way of getting green color at home. Otherwise chlorophyll extract is also used for green color.
Carrot – Carrot is not at all new in any part of the world. Carrot is commonly used to produce healthy and natural red food color.
