Are You Allergic To Hair Dye?

Allergy caused due hair dye is common especially to people with sensitive scalp. Around five percent of consumers who use permanent hair dye come across allergic reactions. Though hair dye packing is really attractive but all that glitters is not gold ! It is fortunate that allergy caused due to hair dye can be treated but the symptoms an be quiet unpleasant.

One can also prevent this allergy by noticing the symptoms. Presence of a component in almost all hair dyeing items, known as paraphenylenediamine (PPD)  is the reason of allergy. PPD is also referred to as rodol, ursol, and orsin in some hair dye products. When PPD reacts with hydrogen peroxide present in dye, it might cause allergy to many people.

Allergy Symptoms

Itchy scalp, redness, swelling, pain, sneezing, scars on face and scalp, nausea and scaly skin are some of the common symptoms of an hair dye allergy. Symptoms may vary from person to person, in other words, some people might experience just one or two symptoms only. Repeated use of such products will result in sensitivity and will cause allergy, known as 'contact dermatitis'. If treatment is not taken just as the symptoms appear, this allergy can turn up into a serious problem. Though only minor percent of people experience such allergy but allergy can spring up any moment to anybody, so it is recommended to take a spot test on your scalp, specially if you are using the dye for the first time.
