Leather is strong and durable fabric, preferred by all. It is prepared by the process of tanning. Leather tanning is a practice in which the protein structure of skin is altered forever, so that it does not revert to rawhide. In simple terms tanning is a technique of making leather from the skin of animals whose skin does not rots easily. A tanned hide or skin produces a strong, fine and flexible leather. For making the hide or skin ready for tanning it should first be cured using salt. Curing with salt prevents any sort of bacterial infection.

Process of leather tanning involves four steps:
1- Making arrangement for tanning
2- Real tanning and any alternative chemical therapy
3- Third stage involves retanning. Retanning means employing agents and dyes to the end product, to make it strong.
4- Fourth stage is the final stage which involves the application of final material to the area without using any chemical.
